Join us on the evening of 20 January for an engaging online discussion exploring healthy ageing, the power of creativity and how to live well with dementia.
As part of 64 Million Artists’ January Challenge, we’ll be joined by the team alongside boom saloon’s Founder and Editor, Rachel Arthur.
At a time when one in two of us will be affected by dementia, which is the leading cause of death in the UK, we’ll explore the current landscape before hearing more about boom saloon’s work to rewrite the story of dementia – centring lived experience to redress mainstream media’s flattened narrative of the dementia journey and highlighting what it is to age healthily.
We’ll finish with a deep dive into In the palm of a spider’s hand – the poetry debut from Gerald King. Diagnosed with young onset Alzheimer’s at 55, Gerry was told he’d never work with words again. His debut collection, penned post-diagnosis, serves as a marker of what’s possible with just a little belief and support. A poignant, pressing event not to be missed.
This event is part of The January Challenge, a national campaign for creativity from social enterprise 64 Million Artists. 31 free and accessible creative prompts over 31 days, designed by different people and communities across the UK, including boom saloon. The January Challenge is an invitation to ignite creativity and connection during the coldest, darkest days of the year.
