Exploring systems thinking: perspectives and applications

Fellowship events

 -  | GMT Standard Time

Online via Zoom

Please join us for an exciting event that presents the transformative power of systems thinking.

This session is designed to inspire and inform, and will bring together thought leaders and practitioners to explore systems thinking as a broad and cross-cutting topic, to its application in specialised fields such as finance and urban planning. Whether you are an experienced systems thinker or just beginning your journey, this event aims to provide valuable insights and engaging discussions.

The session features three keynotes: The first will be offering a general overview of systems thinking, the second focusing on exploring the benefits of systemic thinking in the finance area, and the third (to be confirmed) exploring its role in urban planning. Each speaker will present for 15 minutes, providing insights and perspectives on how systems thinking can address complexity and drive meaningful change. The presentations will be followed by a Q&A session and an informal networking opportunity to connect with fellow attendees and continue the conversation.

Agenda

  • 6:00pm - Welcome and introduction: kick-off with opening remarks and an overview of the event.
  • 6:10pm - Keynote one: 'Systems thinking: a broad perspective' (Ian Roderick, The Schumacher Institute). An introductory session succinctly exploring the foundational concepts of systems thinking and its relevance across fields.
  • 6:25pm - Keynote two: 'Financial vulnerability and the need for a systems thinking approach' (Dr Nabi Omidvar, University of Leeds). A focused exploration of how systems thinking principles can help assess financial vulnerability, risk management, and resilience in financial systems.
  • 6:40pm - Keynote three: 'Systems thinking and urban planning (Lissadell Karalus-Breinholt/Mark Enzer OBE (Invited - TBC), Mott McDonald). Discover how systems thinking can transform urban environments by embracing sustainability and interconnectedness.
  • 6:55pm - Q&A and discussion. Engage directly with the speakers to explore ideas and ask questions.
  • 7:10pm - Networking and informal discussion. We will conclude the session with an opportunity to connect with fellow participants and share insights in an informal setting.

We look forward to welcoming you to this stimulating event as we explore the power of systems thinking together.
