In this monthly interactive events series, we share with you the perspectives and practices that the RSA and our Fellows are using to imagine and realise better futures for people, place and planet.
From long-term thinking to collective action, from participatory futures to regenerative design, join us to discuss the roles they play in our and your changemaking work.
At this event, we explore what it means to bring participation to the places, spaces and systems we work in, and share with you the RSA’s Community Assembly approach. In this new approach to local engagement, the RSA brought the principles of deliberative participation to a neighbourhood in Birmingham, and saw how time, space and confidence to participate can be levers to seeing change happen.
The RSA’s People and Place team - led by speakers Ruth Hannan and Hannah Webster - have been exploring how specific, local and meaningful participation can be a route to improving our individual and collective wellbeing. By giving people space to discuss and decide on issues about where they live and what’s important to them, we believe that people will feel more agency and connection to where they live.
We also welcome Gemma Musgreaves from Grapevine in Coventry, who will talk about their approach to participation and the importance of enabling communities to lead and develop their own priorities.
Presentations from our speakers will be followed by an opportunity for questions and discussion.
We welcome all changemakers who are interested from different fields and disciplines, within and beyond our RSA Fellowship community.

Taking part in-person
We've been looking forward to finally being able to meet together in person. But we of course recognise it is important for us to stay cautious and make the environment safe for everyone.
We’re asking all attendees of events to be respectful of personal space, to be mindful of others preferences in regards to social distancing and to respect those that are wearing face coverings.
To participate in the event, you will need to register for a ticket so we can make sure we have an up-to-date list of those who plan on attending. This is for capacity purposes.
We request that all attendees evaluate their own health and that of those they’re in close contact with. We encourage all attendees that are sick or showing symptoms of illness to stay home and to cancel your Eventbrite ticket if you are no longer able to join the event.
Given the ever-changing nature of the pandemic, please always check your latest national Government guidance in addition to following our baseline guidance enclosed here. If guidelines do change, the event may be cancelled at short notice.
