With the population of major cities (including Bristol) increasing by a third from millennium levels, the pressure on our urban centres is intense.

Open spaces are usually talked about in separate channels e.g. parks, health, planning, play, wildlife, flood prevention, sport, etc. Within each of these “silos” networks, business models, lobbies etc. are being developed to respond to opportunities and challenges from the perspective of particular interest groups, which is fine, except rarely do we take a view of the “system” as a whole. There are repeated crises and sometimes quite negative communications around this vital aspect of Bristolian's lives and our futures.

This event will bring together our experience and creativity as citizens, employers, entrepreneurs and "intrapreneurs" (and we are all potentially investors), to affect those wider agendas, to value and support open spaces, and find practical ways forward for future generations, as those before endowed us with the wonderful (but vulnerable) estate that we now enjoy.

The event is organised with Your Park & The Schumacher Institute and hosted by Burges Salmon.

Led by Ted Fowler FRSA, the event is open to Fellows and a diverse range of others interested in learning and working on our hidden-in-plain-sight pernicious issues.
