Capabilities for Life Faculty FAQ

We encourage Fellows of the RSA from around the world to apply. We are looking for individuals with expertise in teaching, creating learning content, and/or evaluation and assessment related to our Capabilities for life. Experience in designing and/or facilitating learning spaces and direct involvement with our Design for Life Awards target groups (children aged 11-18, adult learners and social entrepreneurs) is highly valued.

The Capabilities for life represent skills, behaviours, mindsets and values essential for shaping a regenerative future. Read our Capabilities for life framework blog to learn more.

Participants are expected to commit approximately 0.5 days per week from April to July. This includes attending online co-design sessions, engaging in asynchronous work/research, and participating in discussions and reviews. Specific dates for the two-hour sessions will be communicated once selected.

Faculty members will collaborate with our teams to design three learning experiences targeting different learner groups. The timeline includes online co-design sessions, reviews and discussions from April to July. The experiences will go live as part of the Design for Life Awards in September.

We understand that participants may have different commitments and be based in different time zones. The engagement is flexible, and we are open to exploring various ways of participation. Please let us know about any specific constraints during the application process.

Faculty members will have the opportunity to shape unique life-centric curricula, gain recognition on the RSA website and Circle, receive priority invites to events, and contribute to a community developing cutting-edge thinking on regenerative capabilities.

As volunteers, faculty members will be compensated for reasonable expenses incurred in support of their work, such as travel, subsistence and accommodation if needed. All faculty profiles will be shared on our website and on Circle in relation to this work, and contributions will be credited.

Interested Fellows should submit their applications by midday on 11 March 2024. The application process involves a rolling review, and selected applicants will be asked to take part in a 30-minute call in the week commencing 18 March.

Responses to selected applicants are expected by Thursday 28 March.

While direct experience is valued, we encourage Fellows with expertise in teaching, creating learning content, and evaluation related to the Capabilities for life to apply. Your commitment to inclusive design approaches is crucial.

Selected faculty members will work jointly with our teams and contribute in ways that align with their capacity. We will invite faculty members to participate in online induction and co-design sessions, contribute to online discussions on Circle, engage with the team and other faculty members via emails, test parts of the curriculum in their own contexts, and review and iterate the content based on feedback from our wider stakeholder groups.

If you have any additional questions or need further clarification, please feel free to contact us at capabilitiesforlife@rsa.org.uk
