Wedding planning can be tricky. We know this all too well. But, our wedding team at RSA House knows, more than most, exactly where you should start when organising your big day. Helpfully, Sarah Nunez-Lafontaine, Wedding Coordinator at RSA House, is here to share five valuable tips to support you on your journey to tying the knot.
1. Take your time
Wedding planning can be a long process. You will experience many moments of uncertainty sometimes based on key considerations such as budget and location, to name but two. Guestlists can grow or get slimmed down. Certain cocktails may be added to the drinks menu. Then removed, and added again. It is a process.
Key suppliers - like your venue, photographer, and music - can be secured earlier, but exact colours, florals, linens, and other design elements can be decided over time. It’s important to keep in mind that the wedding planning process always requires flexibility.
If you can take the time to make those decisions, it will be easier to find what elements are truly important to you.
2. Meet your suppliers in person
Scrolling through websites is one of the best ways to help shortlist your favourite suppliers. Doing it in the comfort of your home means you can get a second opinion from those around you. Once you have your suppliers confirmed, it’s crucial to meet them in person. You will want to make sure you’re on the same page.
It’s likely, you will spend more time with your photographer and videographer than you do with 99% of your wedding guests. The key suppliers we recommend meeting with are; the photographer, videographer, celebrant, wedding planner and your florist.
3. Plan your photos with your venue and photographer
If your photographer has never shot at our venue before, ask them to schedule a tour with us. We love to give tours around RSA House; pointing out the details of the spaces, and their history and giving examples of how photographers have used the rooms in the past.
If you are lucky enough to have a photographer who has shot at your venue previously, ask to have a look at their portfolio to get inspiration for your own.
4. Ask the right questions
“Sorry to bother you, but…” We hear this a lot. A question from a couple is never a bother. We want to ensure every couple feels completely at ease and fully informed. We also see couples who don’t yet know what to ask. Our pro tip here would be to ask ALL the questions. Some of our frequently asked questions have included:
- What is the maximum number of guests we can have?
- What does the room turnaround look like?
- Are there any noise restrictions?
- How early can we access the venue for our setup?
- What audio visual support can the venue provide?
- Who will be there on the day?
5. No bridal party? No problem
We see more couples who are forgoing traditional wedding parties, especially for more intimate celebrations. With that, it can be slightly daunting to delegate tasks to your guests for the day. Once you have confirmed your big day with us, we will help to streamline any jobs or tasks that you might need a hand with and that includes us helping! If you are focused on all guests enjoying the day with you, we can =give the confetti out or we can be ushering people to the wedding breakfast. We also have seen more couples asking their trusted friends or family to MC your wedding, this is great to save a bit of your budget too!
