The news that Nat Wei, the Government’s advisor on the Big Society, wants to spend more time in paid work and with his friends and family, and less time volunteering as the Big Society Tsar has lead to much gloating.

I don’t want to seem obsessed (or obsessive) so this may be the last blog for a while directly addressing the Big Society. But I couldn’t resist one more comment. Partly, this is because I have read two very thought provoking pieces recently, which are worth considering together.

The aim of the Civic Commons is to support citizens to have greater impact on social problems in their communities. This will involve developing the capacity, knowledge and relationships necessary amongst citizens to improve their area’s prospects.

Although everything I saw was slightly obscured by a film of snot (so far, for me, 2011 has involved only three days free of colds) yesterday was a fascinating day. It gave me a new perspective on the politics of the Big Society.
