Visit Fellow-led Art Festival 'Unfold' this October

Unfold is a collaboration between four young Londoners: FRSA Marine Tanguy from MTArt (who pitched at RSA Engage: Creating Global Impact in February 2017), Katrina Aleksa from Predella House, and Liezel Strauss and Kitty Dinshaw from Subject Matter.  

The mission of all three businesses is to create a more open and inclusive art-world, and to bring artists closer to art-buyers and collectors. Connecting people and supporting artists are two of the main goals of the project, which will take place during Frieze Week, when London becomes the epicentre of the contemporary art world.  

In an unusual step, the organisers have made the conscious decision to ban mobile phones from the three spaces so that people can really feel, absorb and most of all, enjoy the art. And, in keeping with the spirit of inclusivity, there will be a comprehensive events programme which will include performance art, children’s workshops and early morning yoga.  

The spaces on Church Street, between Lisson Grove and Edgware Road, will be transformed for the festival. Two will be immersive home spaces, where people can rest and recharge amid the hectic pace of the modern city. One will be a working artist’s studio, where people can drop by, chat to the artists as they work, and engage with their artistic methods and creative inspiration.  

The home spaces in particular will inspire people to consider how they themselves can live surrounded by art: that it is not a challenging prospect to choose a beautiful painting for your wall, or live with a sculptural piece on your dining table.  

There will be a mix of emerging artists and more established names, including Robi Walters. Renowned muralist Lakwena will create her signature bold pieces for the windows, giving visitors a “wow” moment from the second they arrive on Church Street.
