Lensational, a social enterprise run by Bonnie Chiu FRSA, present their first UK exhibition -Transit in Doubt

Transit in Doubt is a photographic exhibition documenting the personal journeys of domestic workers in Hong Kong, as they navigate their way through their new environment. The artworks reflect a variety of emotions and capture revelatory moments of change as the photographers share intimate visual stories with viewers, and invite visitors to the exhibition to become a part of their experience and empowerment.

Venue: Art Represent 264 Globe Road, E20JD London, United Kingdom

There are currently 300,000 foreign domestic helpers who live and work in Hong Kong, most of them female. The helpers, mostly from the Philippines and Indonesia, earn only one-third of the average salary in Hong Kong (500USD) despite working over 80 hours a week. Similarly, the participating domestic helpers may be apprehended by different fates in Hong Kong. One may be lucky enough to have a good employer. Others may have been cheated, or unable to cope with the alienation of a new environment.

The exhibit is being run by Lensational, an award-winning, non-profit social enterprise, whose mission is to empower women across the world through photography. By equipping female domestic workers in Hong Kong with cameras and the skills to use them, Lensational is able to put them in control of their own stories.

For Transit in Doubt, Lensational partnered with Art Represent, the only platform dedicated to the creative and economic empowerment of artists who are affected by conflict and social upheaval. Both organisations come together to showcase the work of these 10 photographers in an exhibition that aligns their missions to enable people to represent themselves through their creativity.
