Learn by making and improve cycling in Manchester

Manchester has joined the global CycleHack movement to help make cycling in the city more fun and accessible for everyone. You're invited to attend CycleHack Manchester between 24th - 26th June, to share your ideas, skills and experiment with ‘CycleHacks’ to discover cycling in a new way.

A ‘CycleHack’ is something that aims to improve the cycling experience and can be tested in the city. Hacks can be physical products, ideas for new campaigns, digital apps or even ways to influence policy that consider local infrastructure and route maps. Bringing together multiple disciplines and perspectives, CycleHack uses a playful approach to help citizens develop small ideas that can make a big difference. This could happen through a simple hack or by connecting communities with 'Match My Route'.

Only in its third year, CycleHack has already grown from 3 cities in 2014 to over 30 cities signed-up across the globe; from Amsterdam to Mexico and Bergen to Beirut, taking part at the same time between 24th - 26th June. All ideas will be showcased at the end of the weekend and uploaded to the Global CycleHack Catalogue – an open source website where all ideas created can be shared and used.

CycleHack Manchester is hosting the event for everyone. Max Seabrooke FRSA initially signed Manchester up to the global movement and tells us,

“We are eager to see people from all corners of Greater Manchester talking about their experiences and thoughts on cycling in and around Manchester. Cycling should be enjoyable and safe for all – we welcome friends and families to get creative together!”

The volunteers have been running CycleHack Socials in collaboration with local communities as well as Sustrans, Transport for Greater Manchester and The University of Manchester throughout the last year. Based on the experience, the team would especially like to cover specific themes at this year’s global event including Rapid Prototyping, Getting Started and Sharing Knowledge.

Running from Friday 24th to Sunday 26th June, the Manchester branch of CycleHack is taking place at Rise Manchester, 231 Deansgate, M3 4EN. Everyone is welcome to join - either at the Friday evening launch event for inspiring and insightful talks, the whole weekend hackathon, including a ‘yoga for cycling’ session, or the CycleHack prototype pitches on the Sunday.
