RSA Fellows are invited to volunteer for the annual Play in a Week inclusive theatre project, taking place at The Nomad Theatre in East Horsley during the week of Monday 25 July to Sunday 31 July 2022
The project, which is in its 22nd year, enables adult actors with learning and/or physical disabilities to enjoy the magic and benefits of participating in a theatre show and putting on public performances.
The Nomad Theatre in East Horsley is a purpose-built and well-equipped theatre, home to The Nomads, who started the PIAW project in 1999. Those who are involved, both in running the theatre building and in the Nomads’ productions, are volunteers who enjoy the challenges and satisfaction of being involved in staging quality amateur theatre for our community.
Play in a Week seeks to share that experience by providing a tailored production each year where everyone is welcome regardless of (dis)ability. A small number of specialist professionalsmake this possible, including an experienced Playwright, and these are supplemented by a team of unpaid but enthusiastic helpers.
Whilst the activities centre on one week in July when everyone comes together at the theatre to rehearse and then culminating in public performances on Saturday night and Sunday matinee – literally a ‘Play in a Week’ – work in ensuring this happens takes place throughout the year. The Nomad team would welcome volunteers with an interest in planning for this worthwhile project, providing administrative support and liaising with both The Nomads and the local community.
If you would like to get involved, you can find further information here or contact Moyra Brookes at chairman@nomadtheatre.com.
