Bringing Campaigners & Creatives Together

Michael Chandler FRSA invites the Fellowship to be a part of a Cardboard Citizens event exploring how campaigners and creatives can work better together.

At an event on Thursday 20 September 12.30 - 5pm, participants will discuss how art and creativity can affect social and political change, and how they, as campaigners or artists, can work together to challenge perceptions and affect real social, systemic and political change.

From music, theatre, contemporary art, graffiti and banners, to mass-distributed media such as films and photography; to design and branding; Art and Culture frame our understanding of the world around us - challenging and changing our perception of our world and the issues within it.

Michael Chandler FRSA, Acting Artistic Director of Cardboard Citizens, invites organisations from both the campaigning and arts worlds to discuss:

• how people in arts and culture can have a greater and lasting social and political impact with their work;
• how campaigners can harness the arts and culture as an essential tool of creating innovative, change-making campaigns;
• and how we can work together better and become a force for making the world a better place.

Co-hosted by Sheila McKechnie Foundation and the Citz Young Storytellers – young campaigners with lived experience of homelessness – sessions will include:

• Challenges in Collaborating: exploring the strengths and challenges of arts and campaigners working together;
• Campaign Catalyst: working together to produce a basic creative campaign in one hour;
• Moments of Inspiration: sharings from artists and campaigners, highlighting how art has been used to change minds and create movements around issues from homelessness, to child poverty, male suicide to political engagement.
• And Where Next – ideas and plans around next steps for working together.

This event is occurring in London, but the group intends to repeat this event at four venues across England in months to come. Watch this space…
