RSA Social Connections x Systems Thinking Network

The Collaboration Room, RSA House & Online via Zoom

As a collaboration between our Social Connections intervention team and the Systems Thinking Fellowship network, we have identified an exciting opportunity to build a comprehensive understanding of the national landscape of actors contributing to social capital and connections.

We would like to explore how this knowledge might inform network building, strategic interventions and resource allocation.

The overall objective of this work is to identify key actors contributing to social capital and explore the interconnections between them in order to catalyse collaboration and direct funding and resources where they can have the most impact.

This event is a context-setting session and an opportunity to shape our system mapping approach, as the first in a three-part workshop series that will strengthen the field of social capital development.

Agenda

  • 4pm - Welcome and introduction (Daisy Carter)
  • 4:05pm - An introduction to the Social Connections Project (Daisy Carter): This introduction intends to provide background information related to the RSA's Social Connection intervention. This context-setting session will provide the opportunity for the members of the Systems Thinking Network to familiarise themselves with our work in this area. This will also enable members to contribute and inform the systems mapping activities related to this project.
  • 4:45pm - Q&A and brainstorming session (Tom Salmond, Marc Goblot, and Amin Hosseinian-Far): This will be a chance to share insights, experiences, and good practices that could inform the network’s contribution to the RSA's work. We will discuss various systems mapping platforms, key contacts, objectives, and opportunities to engage. We will aim to address the following questions:
  1. What systems mapping expertise exists among the Network members, and what should we consider as we develop the approach?
  2. Who are the key stakeholders (Internal: Network members, the wider RSA team External: policymakers, businesses, third sector, researchers etc.) who we should engage as part of this project?
  3. What will be the level of individual commitment to engage with this project?
  4. Do we have expertise among the network members in relation to the outlined context? e.g., Social Sciences, Urban Planning, Psychology, Sustainability, Ethics, etc?
  • 5:15pm - Next steps (Tom Salmond, Marc Goblot, Amin Hosseinian-Far, and Daisy Carter): We will discuss and finalise the details of subsequent engagement sessions, and the calendar of future meetings.
  • 5:30pm - Event close, followed by an opportunity to network in the Muse bar at RSA House.
