Climate change, water scarcity, supply chain disruptions, and low access to healthcare in certain communities are only a few of the current global challenges, yet what are common among all these are that they are complex, interconnected, and the longer-term consequences of previous actions or interventions.
Systems Thinking, as a suite of concepts and techniques, is well suited to reduce complexities in the problems we are facing. In fact, the use of holistic approaches in identifying the best course of action and suitable interventions no longer seems to be a choice, yet an imperative.
This event, organised by the RSA’s Systems Thinking network, features speakers who will discuss ‘Systems’ within different contexts. Dr Maryam Farsi, a Lecturer in Through-life Engineering Optimisation at Cranfield University will provide an outline of Complex Systems. Simon Derrick, Director of Sustainable Business Alliance (SBA) will highlight activities of the FRESHPPACT R&D Hub to mitigate plastics pollution in Ghana that aim to result in a Systems change in the use and adoption of polymers in the fresh produce industry. And Dr Ebenezer Laryea, an Associate Professor of International Sustainable Development Law at the University of Northampton will discuss the application of Systems Thinking in legal systems.
The event will be chaired by Prof. Amin Hosseinian-Far, a Professor of Systems Thinking at the University of Northampton.
