RSA US November Virtual Salon - RSA

RSA US November Salon | engaging the citizenry

Fellowship events / Online

 -

US Timezones: 8 - 9am PT / 11am - Noon ET

  • Deliberative democracy
  • Community engagement

Voting is an essential part of engaging the citizenry of a democracy, but how are citizens informed of their choices? What other engagement methods exist? Our panel will share how they are helping to inform their fellow citizens, and how they are offering additional engagement methods (like citizen assemblies) to allow for greater integration of vox populi into local governance.

Panelists will include:

  • Kelly McBride, the Scottish Lead for The Democratic Society, aka DemSoc - an international venture that seeks to "create a democracy that works for everyone...(by) creating open and welcoming environments for participation" - as well as serving as their Director, Open Government.
  • Deepthi Welaratna FRSA, who was recently involved in the launch and management of Courage California, a voter guide for progressive minded citizens. She is also the Founder and Principal of Thicket Labs, and has a background in marketing and communications, having led offices responsible for those efforts in the venture capital, and startup ecosystems. Deepthi is also one of our Ambassadors for the RSA in Southern California.

This event is taking place on Thursday, November 19th 2020 between:

  • 8 - 9am PST
  • 11am - Noon EST
  • 4 - 5pm GMT

RSA US Virtual Salons typically occur on the third Thursday of each month; they aim to create open dialogue and a space for RSA US Fellows to connect across geography over the issues of our times. Join a Salon to get to know other RSA US Fellows and our interests, passions, and perspectives. Salons are supported through the moderation of a volunteer to ensure that a diversity of voices are heard. We invite all Fellows to join this discussion to deepen the ways we can connect with each other across the country!
