Raising Aspirations in Technology Education and Achievement on the Island
We have been considering the merits of developing a collaborative project with other stakeholders around raising youth knowledge and aspiration with regards to technical and engineering careers on the Island. Although the Island is home to world-leading technology-led SMEs, we believe that many residents are still unaware that these smaller companies are based on the Island or of their importance. We wonder whether there is a way to encourage the aspirations of Island school children, so that they want to train and qualify through tertiary education for these local opportunities.
With this in mind we have asked three speakers who can offer us their knowledge and experience on children and parents' aspirations, and how children can be encouraged to study for the great local opportunities in technology as a way of kick-starting our discussions. The two speakers below have confirmed and we hope we can shortly confirm our third. Each speaker will talk for 10 minutes leaving plenty of time for an extended Q&A/discussion.
Speakers
Richard White, Head of the Studio School and soon-to-be Managing Director of CECAMM.
Carla Bradshaw, governor in a federation of two primary schools, a School Business Manager and a Director of Ed-Wise.
Mark Snow, Principal of Barton Primary School in Newport and on the executive of several other Island schools.
