Trust in politicians is consistently low, amidst expense scandals, sexual harassment allegations, and endemic policy failures. What’s gone wrong?
We often feel fatalistic about politics and the politicians elected to represent us. The ‘Westminster bubble’ brings to mind a political class far out of touch with the concerns of ordinary people, making policies that aren’t fit for purpose. How did we end up with such a toxic political culture, and with representatives who we don’t feel really understand us?
Award-winning political journalist Isabel Hardman lifts the lid on what goes on inside the corridors of power and looks at what needs to change for us to get the right politicians.

Why does RSA keep giving a platform to those whose day-job seems to be sneering at people in public life?
How competent is Ms Hardman to decide for us who is the right and the wrong type of person to be an MP?
I can think of many MPs who I would much more readily trust to take difficult decisions than any given "award winning political journalist".
I'm not sure that Hardman is sneering. I think it may be more of an exploration of why politicians are often seen in negative terms - liars, cheats, self-serving venal etc - when there area lot of politicians that we do trust. Of course, we may all have different politicians that we trust - I suspect there are very few that we all trust.
I doubt Hardman is going to tell us who should be politicians but I'd hope she would challenge some of our views about politicians. We shall see. Well, of any tickets become available I will. Give it a try.
