Join The Fellowship Council

We currently have a vacancy for a Scottish representative on the Fellowship Council.

One of our existing Councillors, Rachael Brown, has had to step back from the role due to work commitments – we are grateful for the contribution she has made to RSA Scotland.

Fellowship Councillors help play a key role in the RSA’s engagement with Fellows, helping the RSA to nurture the best new ideas and to ensure that the Fellowship’s voice is heard within the organisation.  Scotland is represented by two Councillors, who work alongside other Fellows from across the UK.

With RSA Scotland at an exciting time in its development, our Fellowship Councillors have an essential role to play in networking and helping support new projects and events across Scotland.  The following is an outline of the role description and expectations as agreed by the Governance and Nominations Committee:

A Fellowship Councillor is expected to:

• Support the mission and values of the RSA
• Be an effective advocate and ambassador for the RSA
• Support activities of Fellows in their Nation or area in at least one of the following ways, preferably more:
• Starting and sustaining networks
• Putting on events
• Developing ideas and projects
• Work with the staff team and other Fellowship Councillors to look at ways to ensure the Fellowship in their area develops
• Participate as a full voting member of the Fellowship Council
• Understand Fellows' views in their area and feed this knowledge back to the organisation
• Participate in the various committees and working groups of the RSA as necessary.

 Experience required for fulfilling the role of Fellowship Councillor:

• Knowledge of the Society
• Familiarity with the governance of the RSA
• Familiarity with the work of the RSA at a local level
• Experience of at least one of the following:
• Setting up a local network
• Running events
• Developing projects
• Good interpersonal and communication skills
• Willingness to dedicate sufficient time to the role
• Willingness to undertake this role without remuneration (other than reasonable out-of-pocket expenses).

The next meeting of the Fellowship Council will be in London at the beginning of December, and we would be very keen for the new Councillor to be present at that meeting.  The new Councillor will be in the role until the next round of elections for Fellowship Council (later in 2018), and would be eligible to stand for election at that point.
