As regeneration schemes throughout London continue a process of significant urban transformation, small migrant and ethnic business are increasingly under threat. This project expands our work to protect local migrant economies in Elephant & Castle to other areas of London, acknowledging that a business is often a community asset, a shared space of social and cultural significance.
Our capacity building programme is supporting approximately 150 micro-MEBs in E&C, promoting responsible working and business practices, identifying access to funding and growth opportunities and establishing partnerships with financial and legal organisations and NGOs. The programme has empowered local business owners, strengthening the collective network of migrant businesses and furthered the recognition of the social and cultural values of these spaces. This is reflected in local planning policy and the regeneration plans for the area.
Please contact Latin Elephant if you would like to:
- Support existing local migrant business communities and ensure their interests are represented in the planning system and other key decision making processes.
- Secure a place for migrant and ethnic businesses in our future city.
- Work with traders of BAME background to strengthen their position in the planning process, understanding commercial leases and increase awareness of financial resources available.
