RSA Brighton and Hove Fellows' Award

We are pleased to open the Regional Fellows' Award for Brighton and Hove 2016. The Award has been created to help Fellows in Brighton and Hove test ideas, projects and assumptions that are in an embryonic stage (so it's okay if you are just at the starting point of your thoughts.) Applicants should either be a Fellow or sponsored by a Fellow. Three sums of funding are available, the maximum being £500. Applications should address one of the three key RSA themes set out below.

Why should I apply?

The Regional Fellows' Award has been designed to support Fellows to explore ideas for projects with others and to strengthen collaboration and/or applications for the RSA Catalyst Fund.  Alongside financial and non-financial support, successful projects will be highlighted in the RSA’s newsletter and we will help you share your idea using local events. We will also try and connect you to Fellows who may have an expertise in your field.

Are there any obligations on Award winners?

We ask that you write a short summary for the Regional Team and a blog post outlining what you did with your regional support. If you use the funding to bring people together, we ask that you make events available to relevant Fellows and that you record and share who joins you. We also require a fund report and receipts.

How to apply

The deadline for this round of applications is 28th October 2016.

Winners will be announced on 5th December 2016, at the RSA Annual Meeting at the Pavilion, Brighton.

Applications should be no longer than 500 words and follow the Application Format set out below. The applications will be judged by the Brighton and Hove team in the South East Region, who will assess your responses under the criteria set out in the Application Format below.

Application Format

Please include your name, contact details, postal and email address, telephone number, your organisation details, if appropriate. We also require your RSA Fellowship membership number or a confirmation of your sponsor (who needs to be an RSA Fellow). Fellows, please make sure your MyRSA Fellowship profile has been updated with your current skills and interests. 

The headings for your application and the criteria by which it will be judged.

Please outline your application using the following headings, taking into account the criteria specified for review and the word limit of 500 words per section.   

1.Your idea and the need you are addressing. The team will assess your application based on how well you have explained your idea and the need you are addressing.  Please remember this text will be used to highlight your work to other Fellows and potential partners.
2.Your solution. Your application will be assessed on the merits and effectiveness of your intended solution to the need outlined. Is your solution achievable, will it help test or take your idea further and does it recognise other ideas,  potential solutions and lessons learnt from them?
3.Budget. The team will assess the spending proposal in line with how relevant and appropriate the spending is in helping to test your idea.  
4.RSA Key Themes. The RSA’s focus on three key themes helps to focus our work and energy.  How well does your idea align to one or more of the key themes and how could it feed into other work being developed by the RSA? The key themes are as follows:

Creative Learning & Development
We seek to close the creativity gap, working with learners, educators and leaders to develop new approaches that enable everyone, regardless of background, to generate original, valuable ideas and make them happen.

We bring together businesses, makers and entrepreneurs to understand and promote entrepreneurship, sustainable and innovative manufacturing and to create the next generation of socially responsible designers and enterprises.
