Bright Spark seeks to empower students and educators through a new mindset found in the process of design thinking. We believe design thinking offers a unique integration of problem based learning with hands on interactivity and entrepreneurial solutions with human centered insights.
Bright Spark’s 2015 Summer Workshop hosted more than 30 students between the ages of 10 to 16 from diverse backgrounds. The focus of this year’s workshop was to design a create station – the campers were challenged to dream big and see their ideas, inside a $500 target budget, come to life and serve the local community.
The campers went through the design thinking journey and eventually crafted a prototype of the designs they created based on human-centered research and exploration. The campers were broken into seven teams who competed for their design to win the competition. This year’s judging panel consisted of seven professionals from the community, including: Royal Society of Arts United States, Widgets & Stone, Causeway, Chattanooga Christian School, Friends of the Library and the Chattanooga Public Library.
The winning team celebrated at the Open House event when they found out their idea of a graffiti wall will be funded and built in the local library.
