The RSA and the British Council are working with UK and Korean cultural learning policy makers, practitioners and school leaders to investigate the different approaches that characterise arts and cultural education in both countries. The programme is part of British Council’s year-long cultural festival UK/Korea Creative Futures which is using arts, culture, English, science, education and innovation to strengthen bilateral relationships between the two countries.
'Cultural learning' describes active processes for learning about culture and through culture. It references a wide range of artistic disciplines as well as material artefacts, and how they relate to understanding of oneself and social conventions that shape the world around us.
This project will focus on cultural learning as it takes place:
- Within the context of mainstream schooling
- With students aged 5-18years
- Where schools and arts and cultural organisations are working together, in collaboration, partnership or otherwise.
We are particularly interested to examine cultural learning activity which uses engagement in/ with the arts to teach for creativity, whether this takes place within subject specialist teaching or within other curricular or non-curricular contexts, in school or in the context of cultural institutions.
