Mike Tighe
Commission on Social Security
Mike Tighe is a Commissioner. After nearly twenty years’ service in Local Government he experienced a mental health crisis. Over time he has progressed through various iterations of the Social Security system, from Incapacity Benefit to Employment Support Allowance and then onto Universal Credit. A common thread has been the struggle to navigate many aspects of the benefits system, most of which look very different from the ‘customer’ side of the transaction. Mike volunteers with a number of mental health and benefit claimants' support initiatives.
