Most of us will have noticed the prevalence of homelessness and poverty increasing in our own towns and cities.
The cost-of-living crisis, combined with political and economic uncertainty, has only compounded the problem.
Join the RSA for this engaging and interactive session which looks at the current poverty crisis and the role the media plays within it. The session will be led by RSA Fellow Mike Findlay-Agnew, who is the Chief Executive of the UK charity, the International Network of Street Papers (INSP).
Street paper, like the UK’s Big Issue, have supported nearly 400,000 people experiencing homelessness since the first street paper was published in 1989 and more than £200m has been earned by street vendors over the last ten years.
Mike will provide the background context and evidence around where people with direct experience are lacking from the narrative around the current homelessness crisis and will explain about how INSP’s global news service champions unheard voices coming from our streets, putting lived experience at the centre of its reporting.
Participants will be invited to engage and debate the issues, as well as take action to support changing the narrative around homelessness and poverty.
