Over the last decade, creative arts charity Never Such Innocence (NSI) has built a powerful archive of artwork on conflict, composed of thousands of pieces, submitted by young people from around the world. These works, many of which are deeply personal and thought provoking, cover a broad range of different topics, both contemporary and historical. They explore the direct and long-term effects of conflict and demonstrate the tremendous capacity young people have to contribute to discourses on war and peace, at a time when we desperately need to listen.
As part of the charity’s tenth anniversary celebrations, NSI is displaying a powerful cross section of this work in the Vaults of RSA House. We invite you to attend a special private viewing, where you will have the opportunity to learn and be inspired by a range of unique artistic perspectives.
● NSI will provide a brief introduction to the charity and the work on display.
● Dr Alice König - a senior lecturer at the University of St Andrews - will lead a guided tour of the exhibition. Dr König runs the Visualising War and Peace project and is perfectly placed to explore the stories, themes and calls to action you will see.
● The event will be supported by NSI CEO Katie Salari and several of the artists themselves, who have travelled from around the globe and will talk about the inspiration behind their pieces.
● There will be a Q&A session following and an opportunity to speak with the other attendees.
The event is free to attend for young Fellows and friends. We are sure it will be a fascinating opportunity for discussion and reflection, all whilst celebrating vital young voices. We look forward to welcoming you!
