Join us to explore the diverse practices and perspectives within our RSA Living Change approach. These are the vital ingredients we all need as changemakers to tackle complex social and environmental problems.

In this monthly interactive events series, we share with you the perspectives and practices that the RSA and our Fellows are using to imagine and realise better futures for people, place and planet.

From long-term thinking to collective action, from participatory futures to regenerative design, join us to discuss the roles they play in our and your changemaking work.

At this event, RSA staff Fabian Wallace-Stephens (RSA Foresight Lead) and Emma Morgante (RSA Researcher) will share insights from a series of RSA participatory futures workshops held in Scotland. Over the summer of 2022, we brought together diverse groups of citizens to explore future changes to the energy system and collectively imagine better futures for their local area.

They will share more about the approaches used to develop visions for a just transition for Scotland. These include activities that encouraged participants to think about questions from regenerative perspectives, such as wildlife and natural landscapes and future generations. We helped to bring these visions to life using creative approaches such as speculative newspaper headlines and postcards from the future.

Guest speaker RSA Fellow Santini Basra, from organisation Andthen, will discuss how his team have embedded participatory futures in their work. He will give examples of the breadth of methods they have used to engage communities in conversations about the future, including conversations about the future of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, the design sector in Scotland, and mental health services for children and young people.

Presentations from our speakers will be followed by an opportunity for questions and discussion.

We welcome all changemakers who are interested from different fields and disciplines, within and beyond our RSA Fellowship community.

These are hybrid events: you can take part in-person or online. Join us on The Steps in The Coffee House – an opportunity to meet others and grab something to eat or drink before, during or after the event. Or connect to The Coffee House online, from wherever you are in the world, via Zoom.

We sometimes record our RSA Fellowship events for learning purposes, publicity and/or public viewing. By attending this event, you accept that you may appear in RSA videos or images as an attendee of this event.

If you have any questions, or to let us know of any access requirements or reasonable adjustments you require, please email: networks@rsa.org.uk

Taking part in-person

We've been looking forward to finally being able to meet together in person. But we of course recognise it is important for us to stay cautious and make the environment safe for everyone.

We’re asking all attendees of events to be respectful of personal space, to be mindful of others preferences in regards to social distancing and to respect those that are wearing face coverings.

To participate in the event, you will need to register for a ticket so we can make sure we have an up-to-date list of those who plan on attending. This is for capacity purposes.

We request that all attendees evaluate their own health and that of those they’re in close contact with. We encourage all attendees that are sick or showing symptoms of illness to stay home and to cancel your Eventbrite ticket if you are no longer able to join the event.

Given the ever-changing nature of the pandemic, please always check your latest national Government guidance in addition to following our baseline guidance enclosed here. If guidelines do change, the event may be cancelled at short notice.

Taking part online

For our interactive online events, the RSA uses the platform Zoom. It may be necessary to follow a short set-up process. To understand how Zoom uses your data, please read their Privacy Policy in advance.

Zoom call joining details will be sent out via email in advance of the event.
