From: macro – a consideration of how to expand our city To: micro – the materials and methods needed to reduce the impact of our buildings both old and new
About this event:
For the sake of our health, we need to understand the impact of choosing between synthetic ‘modern’ materials and natural traditional materials. Further, how these affect the ‘breathability’ of our building structures, as understood through the concept of hygrospicity, and how we might utilise a natural, locally grown, resource to reduce carbon footprint, whilst increasing biodiversity.
As an architect, landscape architect and town planner, Professor Latham has always championed the need to create great places. In his lecture he will consider how this could be done whilst minimising the use of both the car and open country.
The inaugural lecture will be followed by light refreshments. Everyone welcome.

Derek is a founding member of the Academy of Urbanism, advising cities and other authorities on sustainable ways to grow.
