He believes this transformation will come through initiatives, including the Creative Coathanger Festival, a finalist in the 2016/17 annual Scottish Arts and Business awards. Mark is also a photographer exploring colour, pattern and abstraction from the urban and maritime environment. He trained in Textiles Design (BA Honours), later also acquiring an MA in Fashion Knitwear. He has also led events in the Borders Book Festival 2018.

Derek has a background in local authority and third sector arts administration and museum management.
