RSA MCICH Network: Community Challenges and Opportunities

RSA Fellows and guests are most warmly invited to attend a debate on Community Challenges and Opportunities, preceded by presentations from "Works+", A Heart for Duns and the Friends of the Monteath Mausoleum.

Nicola Toneri, Arts & Drama Professional
Nicola Toneri is an arts educator and drama teacher. She has managed a large peripatetic team of Arts teachers, run staff and curriculum development courses to postgraduate level and written support materials for teachers of Art and Drama in particular. She is an RSA Fellow and Treasurer of The Friends of the Monteath Mausoleum, where work has started following Fallago Environment Fund, HLF and other grant aid.

Mark Timmins, Work+
Mark Timmins is a specialist employability practitioner and innovator, working with hard to reach unemployed young people aged between 16 and 24 for the employability charity Works+. Alongside this challenging and rewarding role, he is a cultural entrepreneur, working to develop Galashiels as a cultural destination. He believes this transformation will come through initiatives, including the Creative Coathanger Festival, a finalist in the 2016/17 annual Scottish Arts and Business awards. Mark is also a photographer exploring colour, pattern and abstraction from the urban and maritime environment. He trained in Textiles Design (BA Honours), later also acquiring an MA in Fashion Knitwear. He has also led events in the Borders Book Festival 2018.

Derek Janes, Convenor of "A Heart for Duns"- a SCIO and Development Trust which is in the process of developing the Volunteer Hall in Duns as a major community hub to act as a focus for longer term development of the town and its institutions. Derek has a background in local authority and third sector arts administration and museum management.

This is an RSA Fellow-led event, run by the Media, Creative Industries, Culture and Heritage (MCICH) Network.
